Be sure to have your ID readily available for a streamlined and stress-free enrollment process.

Comfortable clothing

CDL school involves hands-on learning, both in the classroom and behind the wheel. You’ll want to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing that allows for easy movement. Opt for loose-fitting jeans or work pants, along with breathable shirts or tops. Truck drivers must also wear closed-toe shoes as a safety rule. Make sure to bring tennis shoes or boots to wear during training activities.

Weather-appropriate gear

Depending on the location of your CDL School, weather conditions may vary. Come prepared by bringing appropriate gear for a variety of weather. If you're attending the Swift Academy during colder months, packing warm clothing is important, such as jackets, hats, gloves, and thermal underlayers. If you'll be training during hotter months, consider bringing lightweight and breathable clothing as well as sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for sun protection.

Notebook and writing materials

Our team at the Swift Academy always encourages students to take notes during class to help them remember information and study for exams. This makes it important for aspiring truck drivers to bring a notebook or notepad along with pens or pencils when packing for CDL School. Bringing these materials can help you stay organized and engaged during CDL School, making it easier to jot down important points, key concepts, and any questions you may have.

Personal hygiene products

Maintaining personal hygiene is important when attending CDL School. Depending on the weather while out on the range and the type of training activities planned for that day, you may get sweatier than expected. Keeping some deodorant and an extra shirt on hand may be helpful.

If your CDL School is out of town, you may need to stay at a hotel for the duration of the program. This makes it important to bring toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, and deodorant. Depending on your grooming routine, consider bringing your own towels and shower shoes, as well.

Snacks and water bottles

Long training days can be physically demanding, making it important to stay nourished and hydrated. Pack snacks such as granola bars, fruit, or nuts to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. You may want to also bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated. Planning ahead and packing what you anticipate needing can help you avoid relying on vending machines or limited refreshment options.

CDL Students will get a lunch break each day. You may pack a nutritious meal the night before or quickly run to a nearby restaurant or store. Make sure to set aside lunch money if you won't be packing food from home to ensure you stay nourished and energized during CDL training.

Entertainment During Breaks

You will have some downtime between classes to stay connected with family and partake in recreational activities, making it a good idea to bring items for your personal entertainment. This may include your phone, electronics, books, magazines, and more. Listening to music or a podcast with your headphones is a great option, as well. We also encourage drivers to join Swifts social media groups to stay informed on the inner workings of the company and to network with each other. It’s important to make sure that you’re not at all distracted during class time, with your entire focus on the material. These activities are only for helping to pass the time and stay in touch when class is not actively in session!
